I take a lot of photos of the squirrels that live in our backyard. A lot. It borders on obsessive. The squirrels may indeed feel it is an invasion of their privacy. We do provide them with corn cobs and popcorn and gourmet nuts on occasion so hopefully they feel like there is a little bit of reciprocity.
